5 Creepiest Secret Rooms Ever Discovered..!

Finding a secret room on a video game usually means some kind of awesome reward like a shiny new gun, or a magic potion. But finding a secret room in real life; that often means you’re sharing your home with a pervert, a murderer or both, as we’re about to find out in our list of the five creepiest secret rooms:

Number 5: The Murder Castle

H. H. Holmes.jpg

H.H. Holmes is one of America’s and the world’s most prolific serial killers, having confessed to 27 murders and suspected of over 200 more during the late 19th Century. And, while he plied his murderous trade mostly in Chicago, some believe he may have even taken a trip across the pond and been responsible for London’s Jack the Ripper murders. Must’ve been his gap year or something. But the reason H.H. Holmes makes this list is because he committed his crimes in a number of secret rooms hidden throughout a purpose-built three story hotel, later dubbed the Murder Castle, for obvious reasons. He operated this hotel as a legitimate business for many years, luring single female travellers to their deaths within its labyrinth of covert passageways, and when the killings were finally investigated, police discovered more than 40 hidden rooms throughout the hotel, giving them grisly names such as “The hanging room”, “the black closet” and “the room of three corpses” where I assume they found four corpses but wanted to be annoying. These rooms contained all sorts of macabre equipment such as operating tables, sound proof rooms and torture devices, and when it was time for the bodies to go bye-bye, he installed a couple of quicklime pits and crematoriums to allow his dirty deeds to go undiscovered. Thankfully Holmes was caught and hanged in 1896, but sadly for any of you ghouls out there, the Murder Castle no longer stands, having been demolished 1938. And today, in its place, lies a building responsible for far more torture and agony than the Murder Castle ever was – The US Postal Service.

Number 4: Michael Jackson’s Neverland Shame

To put it mildly, everyone knew that Michael Jackson was a little bit creepy and weird, with allegations of Child molestation and monkey friendship just some of the odd accusations levied at him during his lifetime. But when he died it seemed that Michael Jackson got a free pass on all this funky business and we all started enjoying his music again, until we discovered he had a secret closet in the Never-land Ranch. The public were only made aware of this in 2016, but it had actually been discovered back in 2003 during the raid on Never-land by the Santa Barbara District Attorney and Sheriff’s department. In a secret room hidden at the back of the King of Pop’s bedroom closet, secured behind three deadlocks, was a sordid collection of images depicting half-Naked children, Child torture…. yeah let’s not go into too much detail there. Some people are eating their lunch right now. But what made it even weirder is that these were all mixed in with stuffed toys, life-size superhero figures and Disney merchandise. There was even a signed photo of Macauley Culkin{Home alone movie’s hero} in there which came with the inscription; “Don’t leave me alone in the house”. Was this a Home Alone reference; or something worse?

Number 3: The Secret Roommate

The Basement where Jeremy stayed.

This story may not involve murder, children or torture, but it’s certainly the one which will hit home the most. The tale concerns a group of Ohio State University students who became paranoid when they heard weird noises coming from the walls of their shared accommodation. Cupboards, ovens and microwaves also appeared to have been left open by themselves despite nobody leaving to use them, and when this behavior continued after the students stopped getting high, they initially thought that their rented home was haunted. Until they found out they had a secret roommate. The students traced the weird sounds to what they thought was a permanently sealed maintenance cupboard, but after they forced their way in they found a secret room full of textbooks, framed photographs and freshly laundered clothes. It turns out this room was occupied by a kid called Jeremy, who had gained access through his cousin who used to live in the house. The students eventually spoke to Jeremy and realized they’d met him before in the house’s communal area, but they assumed he was simply visiting someone there. But he wasn’t, he was living beneath them the whole time.

Number 2: Saddam’s Secret Torture Room

Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was executed by hanging in 2006, sparing him from the horrific torture he had inflicted upon many of his citizens and enemies. So brutal were the methods Hussein’s men used to interrogate and punish their victims, that many fled to countries all throughout the World to escape his violent intentions. But it turns out even these people weren’t safe from Saddam’s clutches, as we found out in October 2016, when a secret torture chamber was discovered at the Iraqi Embassy, in New York City. The chamber was located in the facility’s basement, and described by a former worker as a windowless room kept behind steel-reinforced doors. Here, rubber hoses, pliers and planks of wood were used to horrific effect on former Iraqi citizens, who, after being tortured to death here, had their corpses secretly shipped back to Iraq to hide the evidence. American officials suspected such activity was going on, but as the Embassy was declared sovereign Iraqi territory and the bodies were shipped in official diplomatic boxes, there was no way they could have proven it…unless one of the corpses fell out of the box or something. After the 2003 Iraq war and Saddam’s eventual deposition, American forces stormed the Embassy in search of this evidence, but by then all traces of these grisly going on’s had been removed, with this secret New York torture room only uncovered after former Iraqi officials came forward to confess.

Number 1: Haut De La Garenne

Haut De La Garenne was a children’s home for boys located on the UK island of Jersey just off the coast of France. It was opened in 1867 as an industrial school for poor, neglected young lads, and was closed as a working home in 1986, but in 2008 police began investigating the facility’s grounds due to allegations of child abuse. And what they found was truly shocking. The authorities discovered a secret cellar which had been bricked over, and inside was a pair of shackles which corroborated claims by former child residents that badly behaved kids were sent to the cellar to face cruel and unusual punishment. Many were locked underground for 24 hours a day in complete darkness, but those were the lucky ones. Others were drugged and abused in this secret room, with some evidence to suggest the notorious British Paedophile Jimmy Savile made a visit more than once. Another hidden room was discovered to contain a set of old wooden stocks and animal bones, which backed up further allegations that children’s feet were placed in the stocks and tickle tortured, by covering them in brine and letting a goat lick them clean. Wow. The boys often wet themselves during this punishment, and further discoveries include a concrete bathtub found to have blood in it, skull fragments buried around the grounds, and a wooden beam which had been inscribed with the words; “I’ve been bad for years and years.” This abuse went on for over a century within the secret rooms of Haut De La Garenne, and after the investigation was completed only a handful of people were ever convicted.
